Top Ten Tuesday | Non-Bookish Hobbies

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that highlights ten books that all relate to a certain topic and is  hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This Weeks Topic Is...

Non-Bookish Hobbies. And this prompt really made me realise how boring I am and that reading is a massive chunk of my personality! I managed to scrape some together although some of these could be considered interests rather then hobbies!

Puzzles

This could be anything from jigsaws and board games to those little match 3 games you can play on your phone. My favourites to do are the hidden object games you get on computers though. I love downloading the free trials and getting swept up in the storyline and occasionally I'll splurge and get the full game so I can complete the whole thing.

Learning A Language

Could this be considered a hobby? I try and use my Duolingo app every day to improve my French and i'm also just starting to learn Norwegian as well. I'd like to get the basics down for most languages available on there at some point!

True Crime

This is a bit vague but I love anything to do with true crime whether that's listening to a podcast, watching episodes of Unsolved Mysteries or being an armchair detective whilst scrolling through Reddit. I love discovering new cases and trying to figure out who the culprit is and I could spend hours doing it.

Scrapbooking

I tend to go through phases with this one. Sometimes I'll be into it for weeks and then my interest will kind of drop off for a while. I do really enjoy doing it thought. I'm not the craftiest person ever but I love being able to create pages filled with memories and finding new ways to decorate them.

Running

This is a little more tentative as well because I don't go all that often! I did go through a phase (I go through phases with everything; hobbies, food etc!) where I was going a couple of times a week but my motivation seems to have disappeared and also I kept breaking out in a rash whenever I went so I convinced myself I was allergic to exercise! Putting it out into the universe that I will start up again soon!

Photography

I was lucky enough to be given a Canon camera for my 17th birthday which I still own and use a lot. I love taking photographs of the world around me. It's not something I'd ever do professionally but it is fun to play around with all the different modes and effects.

Baking

I'm not much of a cook, I only have a few dished that I have perfected, but baking is much more up my alley. I have such a sweet tooth! I love mixing all the ingredients together, the smell of it in the oven, getting to decorate and of course the eating aka the best part! I find it very therapeutic to be in a kitchen and making something with lots of chocolate!

Walking

I was going to put hiking but then I realised that might be a bit too ambitious for what I actually do. I just enjoy visiting beautiful nature spots with my family and exploring the area such as National trust sites and reserves. Some of my favourite places I've been to in the UK are Hawkstone Park and Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve.

Watch Films

This is a pretty obvious one as I think most people enjoy watching movies but at the end of the day I do watch a lot of films and it's my favourite form of entertainment after books. There's definitely something about going to the cinema with your friends or family, with your popcorn and snacks and watching a great film on the big screen.

Thrifting

Finally we have possibly my favourite on this list? I just absolutely adore going into second hand and vintage stores and looking around. I could honestly spend hours in them exploring all the different areas and hunting for bargains. It's where I get a lot of my reading material from as well as clothes and sometimes gifts. For some reason I just like old things that have been pre-loved.

So, those are some of my non-bookish hobbies! It's a nice break from compiling lists of books every week although I did struggle to come up with ten different hobbies! What are some of your hobbies outside of reading and are there any similar to mine? Leave a comment or link your own Top Ten Tuesday's for me to check out! Happy Reading!

  3. Oooooh thrifting! I do like to look at all the weird doodads at thrift stores...
I'm more of a cook than a baker myself. I feel like they are two very different things!!

  4. I love puzzles and learning languages, too.

And I wrote something very similar about walking vs. hiking in my post this week. Haha!

  5. Thrifting! I didn't even think about that one. I don't go very often, but a few years ago I found a 1st edition DUNE at a flea market! Darn COVID has most of the markets closed though.

  6. I love puzzles. They're so much fun. I just ordered a new one yesterday. My favorite are the ones from Buffalo Games.

  7. I really enjoy watching films too! Running is a favourite hobby of mine too, I'd kind of broken the habit a little in the last couple of years, but I've picked it up again over lockdown.

  8. Doing puzzles has been on a lot of lists today. I enjoy them, too, although I don't do them that often. They are relaxing though, aren't they?

    Happy TTT!
