Stacking the Shelves | May 2021

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality that highlights all the books you've recently added to your shelves. Here's all the books I hauled in May!

What with me being employed now and everything, I can actually treat myself to brand new books every now and again without worrying that it'll break the bank and so I got a few I'd heard good things about recently. All Our Hidden Gifts in particular is a new release that I'd have my eye on as the premise just sounds completely up my alley! I also loved The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton so I had to pick up his newest release. Lastly, I spotted a graphic novel/memoir that handles grief and losing your mother which I really wanted to give a go.

My pre-order of Threadneedle also showed up this month. I loved this book so much that after reading my Netgalley ARC I immediately put in an order for the Waterstones exclusive edition. I also popped into a charity shop on my way to work a couple of weeks ago and struck gold with two wintery reads that I'll be saving for the colder months!

My ebook selections include my Amazon Prime first read choice although I'm finding it harder to pick one as their choices for the last few months haven't intrigued me all that much. Things To Do Before the End of the World is actually an E-ARC that I was approved for (weirdly on the day of it's release!) that I actually just finished and accidently put in the wrong section... Lastly, I also grabbed How To Save a Life which was on offer for 99p on Apple books.

I also discovered that my library has started using the Libby app as well so borrowed a few titles that piqued my interest.

Stacking the Shelves | April 2021

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality that highlights all the books you've recently added to your shelves. Here's all the books I hauled in April!

I got sent my very first physical ARC by Harper Collins this month and I still can't believe I managed it!! My blog is super tiny so I didn't think I stood a chance but I'm so happy I did. I recieved a copy of Incredible Doom by Matthew Bogart and Jesse Holden which is a YA graphic novel set in the 90's that follows a group of teenagers during the 'age of the internet'. So excited to read it!

It’s the dawn of a new age…the age of the internet.

Allison is drowning under the weight of her manipulative stage magician father. When he brings home the family’s first computer, she escapes into a thrilling new world where she meets Samir, a like-minded new online friend who has just agreed to run away from home with her.

After moving to a new town and leaving all of his friends behind, Richard receives a mysterious note in his locker with instructions on how to connect to “Evol BBS,” a dial-in bulletin board system, and meets a fierce punk named Tina who comes into his life and shakes his entire world view loose.

Unlikely alliances, first love, and minor crime sprees abound in this teen graphic novel debut about making connections while your world is falling apart.

In celebration of my new job, I splurged a little and treated myself to some new books! These two were bought in the closing down sale of my local WHSmith. I've heard good things about The Expanse series and I know the Amazon Prime series is pretty popular too.

I also made a little Amazon order because I couldn't resist plus I'm employed now so I have a little money to spare! These are three books off my wishlist that I've been coveting for a while particularly I Hate Fairyland which I snapped up when I saw it had been reduced to like £3.50, a bargain for a graphic novel!

I managed to be pretty good this month and I actually only bought one ebook the entire time and it was only 99p! Plus, I also got my Amazon first read for the month as well.

Lastly, I also borrowed two book from my library app; an ebook and an audiobook. I've started to exhaust most of the books I want to read from the app so fingers crossed the physical libraries are back open soon 🤞

Stacking the Shelves | March 2021

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality that highlights all the books you've recently added to your shelves. Here's all the books I hauled in March!

The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec

Angrboda's story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

Their union produces three unusual children, each with a secret destiny, who Angrboda is keen to raise at the edge of the world, safely hidden from Odin's all-seeing eye. But as Angrboda slowly recovers her prophetic powers, she learns that her blissful life—and possibly all of existence—is in danger.

With help from the fierce huntress Skadi, with whom she shares a growing bond, Angrboda must choose whether she’ll accept the fate that she's foreseen for her beloved family…or rise to remake their future. From the most ancient of tales this novel forges a story of love, loss, and hope for the modern age.

Published on 4th May 2021. So excited that I got approved for this on Netgalley. I mean, a witch who falls in love with Loki? Sounds amazing!

Foretold by Violet Lumani

Cassandra sees death and devastation all around her. In vivid detail.

It’s the price of living with her OCD and extreme anxiety. In every situation, Cass imagines the worst possible fate for everyone in her life. Her dad in a pool of blood after a break-in. Her beloved older neighbor, homeless. A splinter in her finger turned to gangrene.

But this time, it’s not her imagination. The boy next door, Colin, is destined to die. Cass has foretold a real death before; she knows this is a true vision.

Desperate to save Colin's life, Cass immerses herself in a secret organization of soothsayers that promises to teach her how to change the future she foresees. But as she descends into their hidden world of divinatory magic and predictive technology, she discovers there's always a price to pay for unraveling fate's strands. And cheating death will cost her everything.

Published on 20th July 2021. This was available to read on Netgalley and after reading the synopsis, a girl with OCD who can predict death and there's magic involved, I couldn't help but download it.

For World Book Day on the 4th of March, Apple books released a ton of middle grade's and children's books for free on their app so I took full advantage and got ten of them. Some of these I've wanted to read for so long so I really hit the jackpot!

I also can't resist when Amazon or Apple books have those little 99p sales cause I'm a sucker for a bargain 🤷

I also downloaded the Faraway Collection that's available for free on Prime Reading cause why not? They're only short and I love myself a fairytale.

I also got S.T.A.G.S as a free audiobook on World Book Day and I decided to get the free trial of Audible which gets you two credits to use and I'm pretty happy with my choices!

I've been good with not buying any physical books for the last few months particularly with the charity shops closed so the only book I've acquired recently is this one that my dad lent me. The Damage Done: Twelve Years of Hell in a Bangkok Prison by Warren Fellows is a non-fiction book about the author's experience in a prison in Thailand. Not something I usually pick up but my dad does have good recommendations so I'll try and get to it soon.

That's everything! It's actually more then I thought I'd hauled but I'm happy with some of the steals I managed to get. What have you hauled over the last month or even week? Leave a comment or leave a link to your own hauls down below. Happy Reading!
