Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that highlights ten books that all relate to a certain topic and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This Weeks Topic Is...
Books Recommended To Me. I buy a lot of books because of the online book community as I think a lot of other people do as well. It's where I get most of my recommendations and how I hear about new releases. I also watch a lot of booktube as for some reason I just like listening to other people talking about their favourite books so here's a list of books that I bought purely because I saw someone on youtube talking about them! I'll try and link to who I got the recommendation from but I do have the memory of a goldfish and I can't remember some of them!
The Wicker King by K. Ancrum
I picked this one up because Kayla from BooksandLala mentioned it in one of her videos. I really liked the cover and the fact that it's a visual book with the pages becoming darker the further on you read. It's a book that explores mental health and there's a M/M romance in there as well. I was just very intrigued when Kayla was talking about it and from what I remember she enjoyed it so hopefully I will too.
The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary
I don't think I picked this one up because of a particular person but rather because I saw a lot of people I watch mentioning it in their videos. It was a really popular contemporary romance when it was released last year and again, I really like the premise. I think it'll be interesting to watch a relationship develop in this strange arrangement they have going on!
Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
Again, I can't remember who talked about this book but I must have got it because someone talked about it, I don't think it's a book I would have picked up on my own otherwise. It's YA high fantasy which is not something I would spend my money on unless I was really wanting to read it. I really like the pitch Project Runway meets Mulan, and also that cover is stunning so I'm looking forward to when I have time to read it.
The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley
I definitely wanted to read this one because of Codie from Codie's Book Corner. I think she was one of the first booktubers I ever watched and I absolutely adore her monthly TBR game. We have quite similar taste in books particularly ones with darker themes and so when she mentioned this book, I definitely wanted to read it myself. Also, as I'm writing this I realised I kinda cheated with this one as I didn't actually buy it, I borrowed it off my sister...
The One by John Marrs
This book wasn't one I was desperate to get to, I find out about it from Gabby at gabbyreads. She mentioned it in a wrap up and I thought it sounded interesting but not enough for me to go out and buy it brand new. A couple of weeks ago though, I spotted it in a charity shop and grabbed it. It's also being turned into a Netflix series so all the more reason to read it.
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
I'd heard a lot of people mention this book and how heartbreaking it is but it wasn't until I watched Kat from paperbackdreams talk about it that I went and bought it myself. You can find that video here. My interest was already piqued but after watching her vlog I really really wanted to read it for myself. I'm going to have a box of tissues handy though!
Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
Noelle Gallagher talked about this book in a vlog a couple of days ago and it was on sale on Kindle so... I have tried Riley Sager before, I've read Final Girls and thought it was OK but Noelle said that she thought his writing gets better with every book and she really enjoyed it so I thought I'd give him another chance.
My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
I think this may have been Codie again? She's definitely talked about this book on her channel before and I just love that cover and the fact that it's a horror book set in the 80's. By the time this goes up I think I'll have just started reading it (yay, for pre-scheduled posts!) so hopefully I'm enjoying it!
Birthday by Meredith Russo
Not gonna lie, I think I saw this one on Codie's channel as well! This sounds like a really emotional read and I like the idea of seeing these characters over the course of eighteen years on their birthdays. I also picked up the pretty edition with the gorgeous rainbow page edges!
The Devouring Gray by Christina Lynn Herman
Oliviareadsalatte is another of my favourite booktubers, she's so adorable with great taste in books. She read this one in an O.W.L.S vlog last year and I knew immediately that I wanted to pick it up. It sounded exactly like my cup of tea, it's still sitting on my shelf though cause I still haven't been in the mood to start it but it will happen one day!
Do you watch booktube? Who are some of your favourite booktubers and did you pick up any books based on their recommendations? Leave a comment or

I, too, find most of my reads from my fellow bloggers. The Flatshare is a good exacmple. I don't watch booktube, though.
ReplyDeleteSame! My memory just cannot keep track of who recommended what to me and when. I need to be better about making note of that so I can go back and thank the person when the rec works out well.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
The Loney does sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy post.
I'm reading The Devouring Gray at the moment. It's okay, but the chapters are way too long!
