Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that highlights ten books that all relate to a certain topic and is  hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. 

This Weeks Topic Is...

Books On My Fall TBR. When I think of books I want to read during the autumn season I always gravitate towards atmospheric, darker books because I feel that it's the perfect time to read them as the days get colder and darker. I do like to match my books to the season so these are a couple of books that I hope to get to in the next few months.

 

Horrid by Katrina Leno

This book is one of my most anticipated of the year and I ordered my first Owlcrate box partly because I knew this was the book for September. I'm currently waiting for it to be delivered and I can't wait to dive into it. Unfortunately I just finished my October TBR post (I'm taking part in a lot of readathons next month) and I already have sixteen books on there so I think I might have to wait until November which honestly is going to kill me! This sounds super spooky though and I love books set in creepy old houses!

 

These Witches Don't Burn by Isabel Sterling

This book actually did make it onto my October TBR so I'm definitely going to be reading it next month. You know I love books with witches or witchy elements and I've wanted to read it ever since it was released. I'm really hoping I love this because it sounds right up my street and bonus points, it's LQBTQ+.

 

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager   

So, I've already read Final Girls by this author and I think I only gave it 3 stars. I remember my feelings being very mixed and not particularly liking the ending. Riley Sager's books have really interesting premises though and this book is the one I've been most drawn to. A lot of people say it's their favourite out of the four books he's published so hopefully this won't be a disappointment as well!  

The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley

I've just borrowed this from my sister after hearing one of my favourite booktubers talking about it last year I think? I love how vague the description of this book is although it has pretty mixed reviews on Goodreads... I was just in the mood for something dark and gothic and I thought I'd give this a go.

 

Rebecca by Daphne De Maurier     

Speaking of gothic... This is my classic for September and I'm very happy to finally get around to reading it. I've really liked the other books I've read by Daphne De Maurier and of course this is her most famous novel. I especially wanted to read it because of the adaptation coming out next month with Lily James. I'm definitely expecting to love this one.

 

Room by Emma Donoghue   

I've owned this book for years and still haven't gotten around to reading so I decided that I'm 100% going to read it November. This book has very high praise and was incredibly popular at one point (along with the film) so although it's meant to be a very tough read, I think I'm going to be blown away.

 

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen   

Confession, I own all of Jane Austen's books but I have yet to actually finish one... Not because I don't enjoy her writing but because I just haven't found the time. I'm pretty sure I got about 65% into Mansfield Park about 6 years ago but I never actually finished it. I'm determined to read at least one of her books this year though and which better to read then her most famous work. I do adore the 2005 film adapation of this so again my expectations are pretty high!

 

One of Us Is Next by Karen M. McManus

These next three are all on my October TBR so they're getting read next month whether I like it or not! I thought One of Us Is Lying was an OK book, it didn't blow me away or anything and I think I actually preferred Two Can Keep A Secret. But, I saw that this was an available ebook on my library app and decided it would be a good book to fit the vibe I'm going for in October. My expectations aren't high but I'm willing to be surprised.

 

Trick or Treat by Lisa Morton  

Trick or Treat is my non-fiction pick for October and no guesses as to why I chose it! I've always loved Halloween ever since I was a kid and I just live for everything spooky. In a fantasy world I would be a witch living in the middle of the woods somewhere! I'm really interested in the history of Halloween though, to discover it's roots and where some customs come from so I'm very excited to read this book.

 

My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix      

Honestly, I have been waiting all year to finally read this book!! I've been very patient because I knew I needed to be in that spooky state of mind to read it but only a few more weeks and I'll finally be able to delve in. This book just sounds brilliant, a strong female friendship, demons and did I mention it's set in the 80's?? I just can't contain my excitement for much longer!
