Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that highlights ten books that all relate to a certain topic and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This Weeks Topic Is...
Books set in Places on My Bucket List. I haven't done a TTT for ages but I like some of the upcoming prompts so I made graphics for them. I don't have a massive travel bucket list, I guess i'm not super adventurous about travelling the world but there are a few countries/cities that I would love to visit some day.
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
I did start this book a while ago and then soft DNF'd it but it was the first book set in NYC that popped into my head. NYC is probably the number 1 place that I'd love to visit, something about that city just calls to me. I don't know if it's all the media I consumed growing up that paints New York as such a vibrant, incredible city but I absolutely have to go one day!
Welcome Me to the Kingdom by Mai Nardone
My mum went to Thailand when I was a kid and she said it was her best holiday she'd been on. I think if I had to pick a country in Asia to visit, this would 100% be my pick.
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Whilst I have been to Spain technically, it was mainly to the touristy islands around Spain like Tenerife and Ibiza and I'd love to go mainland Spain. The cities like Madrid and Barcelona really appeal to me, they have some stunning architecture and loads of culture that I'd like to see in person.
Cloudstreet by Tim Winton
Whilst the hot climate and the large range of spiders don't exactly appeal to me, something about Australia has always made me want to visit. I'm much more of a city break person then a beach holiday but Australia's coastline is stunning! There's definitely a reason why so many Brits emigrate to Australia and I think it would be fun to do a little backpacking trip round the country.
The Wall by Marlen Haushofer
Look, I've never been skiing in my life but the Austrian Alps just look incredible. Even just to go and curl up in a cabin in the mountains with a book sounds like the ideal holiday to me!
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Sometimes I think Canada actually appeals more to me then the USA. It's got beautiful scenery and it just seems like an overall friendlier country then it's neighbour. Plus, I do love maple syrup!
For a classic British holiday destination, you can't beat Cyprus. The beaches and resorts are incredibly beautiful and it's probably one of the more realistic options in terms of affordability!
The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff
Whilst I think I would struggle food wise here (Indian food just isn't really for me), India is such a colourful and bustling country. There's so many sights to see, it just looks like a wonderful place to fully immerse yourself in the culture.
The Night Guest by Hildur Knutsdottir
I'd absolutely love to be able to experience the Northern Lights at some point in my life and this is the best place to see them. The black sand beaches and the lagoons also look amazing and I think it would be so fun to go whale watching too.
Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan
Considering it's only a 60 minute flight from where I am, I still haven't managed to get myself to Ireland. It's by far the most manageable and it's a country that I've always loved. It just seems like such a fun place but with some beautiful countryside and it has by far my favourite accent as well!
