Top Ten Tuesday | One-Sentence Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read

Top Ten
Tuesday is a weekly feature that highlights ten books that all relate to a certain topic and is  hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This Weeks Topic Is...

One-Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read! A nice easy topic, a brief look at my thoughts on recent reads if you haven't seen my monthly wrap ups! (We're going from most to least recent, btw!) I've also switched from one word to one sentence as I was struggling to some up my feelings on some of them!

The Outlaws Scarlett & Browne by Jonathan Stroud

Action-packed, exciting and filled with witty banter; I was so enthralled with this dystopian/fantasy/wild west mix that I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel releasing in June!

Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay

A collection of essays examining feminism in pop culture and media that had me laser focused on some but lacking in interest in others.

In An Instant by Suzanne Redfearn

A surprisingly heartbreaking and insightful look into grief, human nature and family from the point of view of a character in the afterlife that had me all kinds of emotional.

With hauntingly beautiful prose, this was a creepy addition to the haunted house sub-genre that's filled with ghouls and a sinister family secret.

How to be a Victorian by Ruth Goodman

A strongly researched non-fiction that lays out each section of the day in the life of a Victorian from how they'd wash in the morning, how they relax and what's for dinner in the evening; very interesting and you can tell the author is knowledgeable about the era.

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon

This was such a refreshing romance that really was such a joy to read and I'm so glad that the couple actually communicated how they were feeling for once!

The Windsor Knot by S.J. Bennett

The Queen is secretly solving crimes... Once you get past this, it's a fun cozy mystery with interesting characters and a well thought out plot.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson

A fun listen at the time with a really great audio narrator but hasn't left a lasting impression and I've already forgotten most of what happened...

The Searcher by Tana French

A teenage boy goes missing in rural Ireland and a retired American cop gets himself involved in the mystery - slow paced but with wonderful writing and characters, it was a grittier change from the mysteries I normally read.

The Revelry by Katherine Webber

Frustrating characters and a weak plot that left me feeling dissatisfied with a book that seemingly promised small town secrets and female friendships.

What were the last ten books you read? Have you read any on my list? Leave a comment or link your own Top Ten Tuesday's for me to check out! Happy Reading!

  1. It is difficult to only chose one word! But I think your short snippets are still very accurate. I am going to take a look at In an Instant, it immediately drew my attention. The 100 year old man is nothing but a fun read and I always smile when I think of it.

    Happy TTT!

  2. Great list. I read Bad Feminist and Gallant is on my Spring TBR, so hopefully I'll be reading it soon. The cover of Revelry is gorgeous, too bad it's not so good...

  4. I struggle with non-fiction but I've got the audiobook for Bad Feminist and you've really piqued my interest in How to Be a Victorian. That actually sounds like a very fun read. Great one-sentence reviews! 😃

  5. I just commented on someone else's blog that there's no way I could sum up a book in one word. One sentence would still be a challenge!

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  6. I like one sentence reviews. I can't decide if that would be harder or easier than one word.

  7. In one word the 100 Year-Old Man should be SLAPSTICK. I thought this was a fun activity though I had a hard time limiting myself to just one word (and sort of failed at it a few times.) One Word Reviews

  8. It's surprisingly difficult to really sum up a book in one word, isn't it? I would have trouble even with one sentence as I'm a very wordy reviewer! Great job.

    Happy TTT!

  9. One sentence is definitely easier than one word though I reckon I would still find it tricky, I'm a very wordy reviewer! I'd like to read Bad Feminist, I find it's the same with all essay or short story collections though, there's always some that grab your attention more than others. I'm glad to see you enjoyed Gallant, I've been seeing mixed reviews, I'm not very far through yet, but I'm not finding my attention gripped just yet.
