Top Ten Tuesday | Books I'll Be Buying With My Christmas Vouchers

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that highlights ten books that all relate to a certain topic and is  hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This Weeks Topic Is...

Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes but I tend to get given vouchers/gift cards more then I do physical books as it just allows me to have more choice over what I get so instead here's a list of books that are high priority on my 'to buy' list.

The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig

Kicking off with some horror/darker picks. I read Chuck Wendig's middle grade debut Dust & Grim (here's my review, if you want to know my thoughts) a few months ago and it was pretty enjoyable and I liked Wendigs writing style so I was intrigued to check out some of his other work. This is one of his most recent where a married couple and their son return to their hometown, a town with dark secrets. I just love books set in creepy, sinister towns where the inhabitants are haunted by their pasts.

None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney

This is gonna be the book to fulfill the 'set in the 80's' prompt on the Popsugar 2022 Reading Challenge. It was the first one to pop into my head and it's the perfect excuse to buy it. "A psychological thriller about two teenagers teaming up with the FBI to track down juvenile serial killers" - I mean could this sound anymore amazing?? I haven't heard a ton of things about this book so I'm happy to go into it blind.

All of Us Villains by Amanda Foody & Christine Lynn Herman

This was on one of my most anticipated books list for 2021 and with it's release last month I've just been waiting for the perfect time to buy it aka when I have enough money. I haven't read from either of these authors but seven families competing in a tournament to the death for ultimate power just has my adrenaline pumping. Very excited to get my hands on this one.

XX by Rian Hughes

I'm a big fan of books that play with the structure of storytelling and in particular books that are told through different types of media. XX is a sci-fi novel exploring an alien transmission through transcripts, NASA reports, articles etc and I just think this will be right up my street. It's hefty at 992 pages but I'm hoping I'll have a good time with it.

Lightfall: The Girl and the Galdurian by Tim Probert

I've been trying to get more into graphic novels recently and my interest is currently lying with heartwarming fantasy which this appears to fit perfectly. This was a youtube recommendation and I remember them talking about how whimsical and uplifting this magical adventure was. This middle grade graphic novel follows Bea and Cad as they search for the Pig Wizard and a way to find Cad's family. The illustrations look stunning and I'm ready to fall in love with this series.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I feel like everyone has read this book at this point except for me. Maybe it's because I'm a reluctant romance reader but I haven't felt the pull to pick this one up even with the unconditional love for this series. I'm gonna take the plunge though cause I'm having serious FOMO over here and I know at some point I'll be in the mood for light, fluffy vibes. Plus, a chronically ill computer geek finding her rebellious side with a really hot guy? Actually does quite fun.

The Strangeworlds Travel Agency by L.D. Lapinski

Speaking of sounding fun, being able to travel to different worlds through a magical suitcase? OMG, why have I not read this book yet?? This series sounds like so much fun and a good way to get me into reading more middle grades.

The Weight of Feathers by Anna-Marie McLemore

I think I've mentioned before how much I adore circus settings in books. And Anna-Marie McLemore is an author that I've heard nothing but good things about especially in the magical realism genre. Her books all sound fantastic and where better to start then with her debut? Fingers crossed that this story of rival traveling performers will kick off a love for this author.

You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao

As soon as I read the synopsis of this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. A girl being able to communicate with her recently deceased boyfriend through phone calls for me just sounds like a really captivating way of portraying grief and heartbreak. I'm already prepared for this being an emotional read. Also, that cover is just simply stunning.

Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour

Another author who I've heard nothing but good things about but still yet to try any of their work (well other then a short story in an anthology). All of her books intrigue me though with this one being top of my list. Mainly because someone described it as Northern California beach sad girl ghost vibes and something about that has me desperate to buy it. Again, hopefully I'll find a new author who's backlist I can dive into.

Which books are at the top of your Christmas wishlists? Have you read any of the ones on my list? Leave a comment or link your own Top Ten Tuesday's for me to check out! Happy Reading!

  2. Same! My friends and family members have learned not to give me specific books since I have so many that I don't even know what I have/don't have. I'll take bookish gift cards anytime, though. What's more fun than spending someone else's money on books? LOL.

    Happy TTT!

  3. I definitely feel the same way, I'd rather get vouchers because I have a lot of books and often friends and relatives won't know what I have and will buy something I already have!
