Film Review | Star Wars: The Last Jedi

So, I went to see my most anticipated film of the year last night, loved every second of it and wanted to share my thoughts on here. It was a bit of a rush getting to the cinema, not gonna lie. I took my younger brother who had his last day of school on the day and somehow I managed to book the tickets for half past 3 which made it a little tricky to get there on time. We ended up being nearly 20 minutes late but luckily for us we still had four minutes before the actual film started. We also had a lot of fun searching for our seats in the pitch black and having to repeatedly say sorry and thank you as we pushed past numerous people to get to them.

I actually only got into Star Wars when the trailer for The Force Awakens was released back in 2015 and I thought it looked incredible. I hadn't even seen the originals or the prequels before watching it but I fell in love with all the characters and have since rectified the situation and had a massive Star Wars marathon last year.

I love The Force Awakens so much and I was a teensy bit worried that this one wouldn't live up to my expectations but I'm happy to report that it was definately just as good but in a very different way.

It was emotional, captivating and suprisingly funny. I loved being reunited with my some of my favourite characters (Rey, Finn, Poe, BB-8(!!)) but the new additions worked seamlessly with the rest of the cast. The new character Rose was fantastic, Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega have great chemistry and are honestly a dream team. I loved the return of Mark Hamill and also getting to see Carrie Fisher's face again *cries*. The action sequences hold up and I was constantly being left with the question, what just happened? after each battle, every time. And, the plot twists? OH. MY. GOD. I didn't see them coming.

There are still a few negatives in my opinion, as pretty much every film has them. On reflection there were some unnecessary scenes, I felt some characters were underused and I really wanted to see more of them, I wanted so much more out of one particular scene and also PLOT HOLES that still went unanswered!

But, I did leave feeling in awe of what I just saw. It was a fantastic move by Rian Johnson to do something different and I'm so excited to see where the story goes in the 10th episode which unfortunately is so far away. It may not be my favourite Star Wars film but it's still a hell of a lot of fun and is a great addition to the franchise!

Have you seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi yet? What did you think? Or is it one you're planning on seeing soon? Let me know in the comments!
