New Year’s Book Tag | 2021

Happy New Year everyone, let's hope 2022 has better things in store! It's been a good while since I did a book tag but I spotted this one whilst blog hopping and thought what better way to ring in the new year? This was of course found on The Book Dutchesses although I'm not too sure on who created it.

1. How many books are you planning to read in 2022?

I'm upping my goal slightly this year from 60 books in 2021 to 65 books in 2022. Although I read 80 books in 2021 in total I don't want to pressure myself too much to reach that goal again especially with everything that I'm taking on this year.

2. Name 5 books that you didn’t get to this past year but want to make a priority in 2022.

I say it every year and the books I'm 'prioritising' never end up getting read but The City We Became by N. K. Jemisin, Emma by Jane Austen, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai are probably the ones I'd most like to get to if I can!

3. What genre do you want to read more of?

I failed my goal of reading one non-fiction book and one classic a month last year so I'm hoping to reinstate it and get a better outcome in 2022. I do enjoy reading these genres (if you can call them genres) but seem to always bypass them in favour of fiction. I have a load of classics I want to get to and a fair few non-fiction as well on my shelves so I would like to get to a bunch of them.

4. Name 3 not-related-to-book goals for 2022.

1. Re-begin Couch to 5k with my brother. We were doing well last year, we got to week 6, but then a bunch of things happened (getting ill, hurting my ankle, working hours meant we were running in the dark/cold) so hopefully we can get ourselves back on track with our running.
2. Try not to fall behind with my college work. I've just started an apprenticeship with my work which means I'm working full time and doing all of the extra bits for my course as well. It's been a while since I was in school so I think it's gonna take some time to fall back into that sort of routine.
3. Get out and do more! Covid has made me realise that I don't have much of a social life, I tend to just hole myself up in my room at weekends. I just want to actually be leaving my house and going out, whether that's going for a walk, exploring new places, trying a new activity/hobby, meeting up with family. I just need to leave my house more often!

5. What’s a book you have had forever and are determined to read?

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt has been sitting on my bottom shelf for years just taunting me with it's hugeness! I've picked it up a few times but haven't made it further then 100/150 pages in. It's just a big ol book that has intimidated more for far too long. No more! I'd really like to get it read this year and I have faith in myself that I can do it!

6. One word that you’re hoping 2022 will be.

Progressive!
