This sounds like a fun summery road trip novel AKA my ideal summer read.

I don't read a ton of fantasy but this one really intrigues me especially with the reluctant prince and book of magic elements.
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

I'm not a huge gamer (I mainly stick to Sims!) but this is reminding me a little of that plotline in Free Guy.
The Pallbearers Club by Paul Tremblay

What if the coolest girl you've ever met decided to be your friend?
Art Barbara was so not cool. He was a seventeen-year-old high school loner in the late 1980s who listened to hair metal, had to wear a monstrous back-brace at night for his scoliosis, and started an extracurricular club for volunteer pallbearers at poorly attended funerals. But his new friend thought the Pallbearers Club was cool. And she brought along her Polaroid camera to take pictures of the corpses.
Okay, that part was a little weird.
So was her obsessive knowledge of a notorious bit of New England folklore that involved digging up the dead. And there were other strange things—terrifying things—that happened when she was around, usually at night. But she was his friend, so it was okay, right?
Decades later, Art tries to make sense of it all by writing The Pallbearers Club: A Memoir. But somehow this friend got her hands on the manuscript and, well, she has some issues with it. And now she's making cuts.
I'm all for a thriller about unsettling friendships especially when part of it is set in the 80's.

I loved the first book when I read it in April so I've been eagerly anticipating the sequel.

Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey

I need more gothic/horror/haunted house stories in my life.
A Heavy Dose of Allison Tandy by Jeff Bishop

The summer after senior year should have been a time for Cam to party and hang out with his friends. It should also have been a time for him to win back the love of his life, Allison Tandy, who'd dumped him so brutally the year before.
But it quickly becomes clear that this summer is going to be worse than a failure for Cam. It's going to be a tragedy.
Ally is left comatose after a terrible car crash, then Cam tears his ACL in a basketball accident. The operation leaves him in agony, confined to his couch and ruminating over the fact that his ex may not survive.
But when (after taking his medication) Cam starts seeing Ally, he starts to think: 1. He may be headed for a complete mental breakdown and 2. This summer might just be interesting afterall.
I don't read as much contemporary as I used to but this sounds fun and it's compared to a John Hughes movie so duh, have to read it!

Anything that sounds like a dark fairytale is going straight on my list!
